3. Activities

I. Painting Murals

After spending a good long day of diligence, it was finally completed! The students were also supplied with the paint and brushes.

II. Helping Instructors in Rehabilitation

They tried to handle the kids just as they were told. However, easier said than done, they learned a couple of things that day and one of them were ‘never let your guard down’ (they weren’t assaulted or anything, the kids were just really playful and I guess our poor unsuspecting students were tuckered out too fast!).

III. Organizing cookout

By planning ahead of time, the students organized a successful cookout with the staffs of SK Telok Datok. Originally, they had to raise the funds to buy some of the materials as they insisted on not wanting to be too dependent on the staffs of the SK Telok Datok.

IV. Animal Masks

They made animal masks with the students of Sekolah Khas Telok Datok. They had patiently helped the students out and also coloured the masks.

V. Decorating the Walls

They drew and pasted various artworks for many people to enjoy. It may not seem like much, but trust me, they were very much appreciated.

4. Self Reflection

“From today’s CAS activity, we were assigned to paint the front wall of the PDK building and also to help out with planting in the gardens. We were able to complete the painting within a short period of time and although the planting part wasn’t as easy, we pulled it off. I guess you could say that we had quite a busy but good time.”

3. Activities

I. Assisting the Staffs upon Request

Some of our students are asked to do computer work, help out in the library and even to help the teachers prepare for their classes!

II. Mural Painting

Students also paint murals on certain areas of the school walls to further beautify the school environment to further provide a conducive environment for studies. It was understood that the brushes, paint and shellac was provided by the school.

III. Mini-games

One of the group of students organised a mini-game for the Form 6 students of the school who had just completed the UPSR examinations. They bought the needed materials and also prizes by carefully planning out what they wanted to do for the day.

IV. Tutoring Remedial Students

Students even volunteered to tutor the young ones who weren’t up to par on certain subjects like math. It’s harder than it sounds truth be told.

V. Cleaned out the School Workshop

It was like tidying out a haunted house! The cobwebs reached all the way from a table to the floor, a fish was found dead in an empty aquarium and lets not mention the dust collected there. The students were very excited when they heard that they’d be studying in a cleaner and dust-free workshop.

4. Self-Reflection

“The final visit went on very smoothly. We monitored the students while they were having their competitions and had also helped the staffs in wrapping their gifts. We were also touched that the closing ceremony was also a farewell ceremony for us in order for them to us their gratitude and appreciation. A little help does go a long way.”

II. Paddy Planting

III. Taught Students

Our group of KMB students used a more fun and active approach in teaching the students. Stressing that learning doesn’t have to be boring, especially when you know how to enjoy yourself with it.

IV. Birthday Celebration

A group of KMB students had celebrated one of the teacher of SK Dengkil’s Birthday. They cooked all of their foods with the materials that they prepared (after planning and asking for permission of course).

V. Mural Painting

Painting murals are definitely a signature talent of us KMB students. We’ve been offered numerous times to do such activities!

3. Self-Reflection

SK Dengkil and our team have planned to organize a program to build up the English proficiency among the students. This project is our mega project. My ambition and hope came alive when I have successfully achieved to inspire students to be interested in English. It has been a long time I have been expecting this to happen. To inspire others. Same like Dato 'Sheikh Muszaphar do for the people of Malaysia, like Oprah Winfrey with her show, just like Donald Trump was in The Apprerentice. We who have been with MHI has successfully plan this English program. We are grateful to the MHI for providing English modules for the students. Malaysian students are actually good in English but due to peer pressure they are afraid to speak in English. With the help from MHI and IB students, we taught them to be a RISK TAKER. The students actually did very well. They know how to pronounce words properly, understanding what we said, and we were delighted to see how motivation can improve people.”

V. Made Animal Masks With The Residents Of The PDK

The students cut out and even coloured the animal masks to be given to the PDK kids, there were butterflies, tigers and also various other animals. It was the hottest thing to have at the time!

4. SELF-REFLECTIONS

“This was my first time meeting with the residents of PDK Semenyih, I was astonished to see how happy and energetic they were. This made me have an introspection moment, where I thought about how easily I sigh and feel down over every single hurdle i came across. While these kids, who’re a whole lot more worst off, had never been putting themselves down because of their disabilities, I should learn from them and never give up on hope.”
